KENTUCKY ARABIAN HORSE ASSOCIATION OCTOBER 2011 NEWSLETTER

Dear Members,
For  those of you who did not know, Adrienne Hancock-Leong suffered a terrible riding accident at her riding arena on August 10th. She initially was in a coma with brain damage as well as other injuries. She  was taken to University Hospital in Louisville where she stayed until recently. Adrienne is now at Christopher East which is located at 4200 Browns Lane, Louisville, Ky 40220. She is in the Pathways Unit which is for patients with brain injuries. She is receiving therapy 4 or more hours a day. She is answering questions (yes or no), attempting to write or  speak. She sits up for about 45 minutes a day. visiting hours are Monday through Friday, 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm during the week and 10:30 am to 8:30pm on Saturday and Sunday. I hope that our members will continue to pray for Adrienne's recovery.
Adrienne has done more to promote Arabians than anyone. . She has done more for our youth than any one I know.  She has exposed our kids to Dressage and Hunter-Jumper  disciplines and I could not begin to estimate how many kids have had lessons with her through the years. She has also been one of the biggest supporters of our Arabian Shows. She always  has more entries at our shows than any other trainer. Her arrival here in Kentucky in the early 1980's has opened up more opportunities for youth and adults to learn to ride than would have ever been possible otherwise. We have been so fortunate to have the advantage of her  expertise and knowledge.  We look forward to seeing her back in the show ring in 2012!!!!
KAHA IS  HAVING A FUND RAISER FOR HER  AT OUR NOVEMBER 6TH GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING. WE WILL BE DOING A SILENT BID AUCTION ON ITEMS DONATED TO HELP ADRIENNE WITH HER HOSPITAL EXPENSES. (WE WILL ALSO ACCEPT CASH OR CHECK).  WE ALREADY HAVE ITEMS DONATED BY MEMBERS, VENDORS AT SPORT HORSE NATIONALS AND US NATIONALS. YOU MAY SEND ITEMS TO TONY CONNER, 8393 AIKEN ROAD, LOUISVILLE, KY. 40245 OR I WILL COME AND PICK THEM UP FROM YOU. I CAN BE REACHED AT 502-241-5244 OR TCKAHA2@AOL.COM. PLEASE HELP US AND CONTINUE TO KEEP ADREINNE IN YOUR PRAYERS.
THE MEETING WILL BEGIN AT 6:00 PM ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2011 AT THE JAMISON INN LOCATED AT I-64 AND BLANKENBAKER PARKWAY NEXT TO THE CRACKER BARRELL RESTAURANT.
WE WILL HAVE PIZZA AND SOFT DRINKS AT 7:00 PM. BIDDING WILL CONTINUE UNTIL FIVE MINUTES AFTER THE END OF THE MEETING.
The 2012 Bluegrass Shows will be held on April 6-8 at the Kentucky Horse Park. We will continue to have the Halter, regular performance and Sport Horse classes in the heated Altech Arena. The Sport Horse Classes will be greatly expanded this year and other new classes wlll be added. The h/j classes will be held in the covered arena. There will be no dressage  classes due to a lack of entries over the past few years. We only had 12 rides this past year and dressage was cancelled. Sahiba had already cancelled their dressage due to poor entries also. No classes will be held outside.
    See you on November 6th.

KAHA JUNE 2010 NEWSLETTER

Dear Members,

We had one of the best Bluegrass Shows we have had in several years. The entries were up 25% from last year!!! Easter hurt our attendance somewhat at all the rings . The temperatures were in the 70's-80's which is unbelievable. Wouldn't you know that in the year we pay for heated arenas, warm up rings and heated barns that we have summer time weather. It was worth it and next year will even be better. The 2011 dates will be April 1-3, 2011!!
The regular performance and halter exhibitors really liked the new heated arena, heated warm up ring and heated barns. We had new and old exhibitors this year. Jim Brown and Myron Krause did a great job judging the Festival and Classic respectively. The arena worked really well for all of our classes. We would like to have seen more entries in this arena but we will next year.
The hunter/jumper exhibitors really appreciated the use of the covered arena. The course set up was perfect. It set right in the middle of the 300 X 150 arena which left plenty of room at each end We had 209 rides on Friday , 215 on Saturday and more than we have every had for the Region 14 Hunter-Jumper Championship Show. We had exhibitors from as far away as Arizona, Oklahoma, Canada, New Jersey, Virginia, Alabama and Georgia. This indicates to me that we have great Hunter/Jumper shows when people drive clear across the country to participate!!! This was in addition to the exhibitors from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Kentucky.
The three Hunter/Jumper judges (Sabina Chambers-Hutchison, Peggy Beachy and George Thornbury) and the Dressage/Sport Horse judge (Karen Winn) also did a great job. For those of you who are unaware of how a hunter-jumper ring works, IT NEVER STOPS!! We start with the hunter warm ups first thing and then do not stop until the last hunter/jumper class is over.
Our volunteers did a fantastic job. They are: Wanda Herold, Dolores Chilton, Susan Prater, Pat Hawkins, Vince ONeill, Jerry Riggs Allan Ehrlickand H. C Maupin. Horse Shows don't happen without VOLUNTEERS. We are so fortunate to have such a hard working group . There is always room for more VOLUNTEERS. We really do need your help.2011 will be a much bigger year
